Yerevan - Armenia's largest city and the capital since 1918.
According to the official estimates, the population is about of 1.000.000 people. It is the 17th capital in the history of Armenia.
The history of foundation goes back to 782 BC, when the King Argishti I found the fortress of Erebuni at the western extreme of the Ararat plain.
Erebuni was designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital.

- Matenadaran repository contains one of the largest depositories of ancient books and manuscripts in the world.
